There’s more bad news today in flight sim world with the cancellation of yet another show – the AstraSim Expo at Cosford.

It is with regret that the show to be held at Royal Air Force Museum Cosford on September 19th – 20th has been cancelled. We would like to thank everyone who has helped in organising this event. A lot of time, money and hardwork has gone into trying to bring the community an event we can all be proud of in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately due to a lack of support we had to make a decision on how to move forward. From a personal point of view I do see this is as an opportunity missed, but never say never and hopefully events of this stature will come back again in the future. There is a real need to give flight simulation a professional showcase, days of table top displays in our opinion, do nothing to help promote the hobby and attract very little in attendance. Since the closure of Microsoft Aces, the market has spiralled out of control and there seems little if any motivation to stabilise, promote or even maintain an awareness. Thus confidence is very low in what once was a very successful industry. I do hope flight simulation recovers, to levels that can be sustained and ones to move the genre forward. Finally, All exhibitors who paid for this event will get a full refund in the next day or two.

I’m hoping that the reason for the recent spate of cancelled shows is down to the global financial crisis – in which case hopefully things will turn around at some point – rather than a general decline in interest in the hobby as a whole. I guess time will tell.
