MSFS 2024 Sim Update 5 Beta Now Available with Massive Fix List
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has entered public beta testing for Sim Update 5. The update targets stability improvements, career mode fixes and aircraft system refinements across the board. Players on Steam, Windows PC and Xbox can opt into the beta right now.
What does Sim Update 5 fix?
The patch notes run long. Asobo has addressed multiple crash scenarios, performance regressions and visual bugs that have plagued the sim since launch. Key fixes include stability improvements for the career and mission modes, where progression blockers left some pilots stuck. The UI now properly reflects pilot profile stats, and several broken mission steps have been corrected.
On the visual side, a later beta build (1.7.9.0, released March 3) resolved a regression that accidentally removed windows and doors from autogen buildings. Not exactly the kind of realism anyone asked for.
How to join the beta
On Steam, right-click MSFS 2024 in your library, go to Properties > Betas, and select the Sim Update 5 beta branch. On Xbox and Windows Store, the beta is available through the Xbox Insider Hub. Keep in mind that community mods in your packages folder may cause unexpected behavior during beta testing.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will Sim Update 5 leave beta?
Asobo has not confirmed a final release date yet. Beta testing typically runs for 2-4 weeks depending on the number of issues found.
Will Sim Update 5 break my add-ons?
Possibly. Beta builds can introduce compatibility issues with third-party add-ons. Move your community packages to a separate folder before testing if you want to avoid problems.
